The Newcastle United midfielder was presented with his award at a star-studded awards dinner, sponsored by mechanical and electrical contractor H. Malone, at the Ramside Hall Hotel on Sunday evening.
Still only 19 years old, Miley's debut for his boyhood club came on the final day of 2023/24 before he made 26 appearances in all competitions across the following campaign and impressing against last season.
But this term he has truly come of age, becoming the club's youngest scorer in the Champions League when he netted at Bayer Leverkusen in December and winning plaudits for his performances in both his favoured role but also in Eddie Howe's defence.
The England under-21 international has made 30 appearances this season, scoring three goals - although he's currently sidelined due to injury. He also holds the record for United's youngest European debutant and the youngest Newcastle player to score and assist goals in the Premier League.
Head coach Howe also attending the event, where Sunderland defender Dan Ballard received the Men's Player of the Year award, breaking Newcastle United's four-year stranglehold on the trophy. Ballard pipped Dan Burn to this year's award, with Sandro Tonali finishing third in the voting by the region's press pack.
Sunderland Women's Katie Kitching is the Women's Player of the Year with her teammate Katy Watson chosen as Young Women's Player of the Year.
Former Middlesbrough and Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray receive the North East Football Writers' Association Personality of the Year Award while there were also a host of other awards on the night, with long-serving former Magpies club photographer - and now Sunderland snapper - Ian Horrocks, who was surprised with the Bob Cass Award for services to football in the region.
This year's black-tie event once again raised funds for the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation, with proceeds going towards construction of the £30m Sir Bobby Robson Institute, a world-leading cancer trials hub for the region at the Northern Centre for Cancer Care, Freeman Hospital, Newcastle.
